Our Whole Lives (OWL)

OWL-logo-1

There are several age appropriate curricula are offered, all require parents to attend an orientation and signature prior to children/youth attending

The Unitarian Church in Westport offers these programs at varying times/ alternating years.  All sessions are taught by trained facilitators.

Elementary ages

  • K-1 OWL can help you educate your child about birth, babies, bodies and families.  Parents will be actively involved as the children learn through songs, stories, activities and at-home projects that promote family dialogue
  • 4-5th OWL helps children learn about and discuss the physical & emotional changes they will expect in puberty. Parent Take it Home Links provided.
  • 8-9th OWL - Requires the most investment of time by families, but it is for something that impacts their whole lives.   The program helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. It equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture. Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, Our Whole Lives not only provides facts about anatomy and human development, but also helps participants clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality.
  • 10-12th Senior High - models and teaches caring, compassion, respect and justice.  It helps youth address their attitudes and values, their feelings about themselves & their sexuality & their attitudes toward others.

Both Jr. & Sr. High curricula address issues typically excluded from sexuality & health classes

OWL classes are closed after the 2nd session due to the nature of the subject matter and group dynamics.
